How to use your shipping containers for a pool this summer?

Shipping containers have long been used for transporting good of all kinds in amounts massive across oceans. While they’re still primarily used for this purpose, over the past few years, the humble shipping container has been modified for use for a variety of other purposes. You won’t have to look far to find homes including containers in their architecture as well as it being used in open theatres, schools, restaurants and office spaces.

A new trend that’s been gaining momentum as summer approaches is repurposing shipping containers as swimming pools. Modified containers come in a variety of sizes, and as most are about 2.4 metres in height and width and up to 12 meters in length, they’re ideal for use as a swimming pool.

How To Make A Pool Out Of Shipping Containers

Using a shipping container as a pool is a perfect option if you don’t have a lot of yard space to spare or if you cannot dig down into your property for whatever reason. This doesn’t mean you can buy one and fill it with water though!

1. The first step in your planning involves requesting permission from your local council with details of the pool’s specifications, including any additional features you might require. For example, you might need to have safety fencing of some kind.

2. Once you’ve received permission, the next step is to seek a professional to handle all the structural needs of your pool. Structural experts will be able to ensure that the pool will be able to withstand different weather conditions as well as water pressure.

3. Now you can decide on the desired depth of your pool. The container can be cut down to your required height.

Even though shipping containers are designed to be waterproof for transporting cargo, they don’t have insulating water capabilities, therefore waterproofing them is essential. By installing a layer of watertight steel around the frame and applying rust treatment on the interior and exterior of the structure, it will last a long time without breaking down.

What next? Plumbing. To ensure that everything runs smoothly, you’ll need to get a plumber to install the necessary pipes and drains for your system.
